Support from Marine Fund Scotland

30th November 2022

EcoCascade are very pleased to today announce they are the recipients of a recent infrastructure grant from the Marine Fund from Scottish Government.

This will enable high quality, food safe equipment, suitable for drying and processing fresh seaweed to be installed at a conveniently located habourside site Kyle of Lochalsh in the West Highlands in time for the Spring harvest next year.

Co-founder Alison Baker says:

"access to primary processing has long been acknowledged as a major bottleneck for the seaweed industry on the West Coast of Scotland. EcoCascade is a community interest company specifically set up to address this problem for the benefit of all producers in the area, and we are delighted to receive this grant award which will enable us to get up and running."

EcoCascade will soon also open their Crowdfunder requesting support from the wider community interested in further supporting investment in food-grade production as part of the CIC’s endeavour for leading the sustainable growth of the seaweed industry. Both the Marine Fund Scotland infrastructure support and our Crowdfunder will support us in bringing 5 jobs to the region to run processing operations, and providing the ability to research the best, most energy-efficient and effective methods for seaweed stabilisation, ready for end-markets.
